How to Build a Pyramid in Minecraft
Pyramids are one of the easiest big builds in Minecraft because every layer is just a square that is two blocks smaller than the one below it. Here’s how to plan and build one.
The pyramid rule
Start with a square base of an odd size, like 21 × 21. Each layer above is 2 blocks smaller on each side (19, 17, 15 …) until you reach a single block on top. A pyramid with a 21-block base has 11 layers.

Step by step
- Mark the four corners of the base and fill or outline it.
- Step one block in on every side and build the next layer.
- Repeat until the top block.
- For a smooth look, use stairs or slabs on the outside edges.
Styles
- Egyptian: sandstone with a gold block cap and a hidden tomb.
- Mayan step pyramid: each layer 2 blocks tall with a staircase up the front and a temple on top.
- Modern glass pyramid: a glass shell over a lobby, like a museum entrance.

Adding a hidden tomb
Leave the inside hollow, build a narrow tunnel from one side, and add traps with pressure plates and dispensers. Put the treasure room in the centre on the bottom layer.
The height-to-width rule
For a smooth 45° slope, the base width should be one block less than double the height. A pyramid 16 blocks tall needs a 31-block base; one 64 blocks tall needs a 127-block base.
Pyramids for beacons
A beacon pyramid is a small stepped pyramid of iron, gold, emerald, diamond or netherite blocks: 9×9, 7×7, 5×5 and 3×3 layers (164 blocks). Plan it with the beacon pyramid generator.

Build it the same way on Bedrock. To speed up the base in creative, /fill can place each square layer quickly because pyramids are made of rectangles.
